Posty Crumbs lets you leave photos, videos, and stories pinned to real places, and find what other people have left. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to match exactly what we declare to Apple and Google.
The short version. We collect what the app needs to work: your account details, the crumbs you create, and the locations you attach to them. We do not sell your data, we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites. We do use AI to check public photos, to sort crumbs into categories, and, only when you ask, to turn a face in your photo into a cartoon or add subtitles and a voice to your video — it never sees your exact location or who you are.
What we collect
Account information — your email address, username, display name, and profile photo. Used to create and secure your account.
Content you create — the photos, videos, audio, text, comments, and tags in the crumbs and trails you post. Video you record includes its sound.
Location — the precise coordinates attached to a crumb, and your device's location, precise or approximate, while you use the map, so we can show what's near you. Some of this comes from the photo you choose, since photos often carry the place they were taken.
Background location — only if you switch it on. Two settings use your location while the app is closed. Nearby nudges tells you quietly when you're near a crumb that matters to you. Remember my day gathers the places you passed into a single card each evening, kept on your phone rather than on our servers. Both are off unless you turn them on, both are iPhone only, and you can turn either off in Settings — or switch location off entirely in your device settings.
Identifiers — an account ID for your profile, and a push notification token if you allow notifications.
App activity and diagnostics — how you interact with the app, crash reports, and technical measurements such as how media uploads perform, so we can fix problems and make things faster.
How we use it
Everything above is used to operate the app: signing you in, storing and showing your crumbs, placing them on the map, delivering notifications you asked for, and fixing problems.
We also use it to personalise what you see — which crumbs, trails, tags, and people we surface for you, based on where you are, what you've posted, and what you've looked at — and for analytics, meaning understanding how the app is used so we can improve it. Both of those happen inside Posty Crumbs. We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not build profiles of you for anyone else.
Where AI is involved
Some things here are done by AI rather than a person. We use outside AI services for this, and they work only on our behalf:
Checking photos before other people see them. When you post a crumb that isn't private, an AI service checks its photo for nudity or sexual content. This happens automatically to every public crumb — you don't ask for it and you can't turn it off, because it protects everyone else using the map. If a photo is flagged, the crumb is hidden and we tell you.
Sorting crumbs into categories. After you post, an AI service reads the crumb's words, the name of the place, and its photo so it can pick a category and suggest tags. This is what makes the map filters and the tag pages work.
Helping you write. Only when you ask, by tapping the writing help while making a crumb. The AI service receives your instruction and whatever you chose to include — the caption you're drafting, the place name, any links, and the photo.
Turning a face into a cartoon. Only when you ask, by painting over a face in the photo editor and tapping "Cartoon it". The app tells you the first time. An AI service receives a small cut-out of the photo around the area you painted, plus the shape you painted — never the whole photo, and never the place, your email, or your username. It sends back the cut-out with the painted area redrawn, and the app blends it into your photo. We keep a count of how many times you have used it, but we do not keep the cut-out or the result anywhere. Faces in the photos you choose are often those of children; the same rules apply, and nothing is sent unless you paint and tap.
Subtitles and a read-aloud voice on videos. Only when you turn them on for your video. A transcription service turns the video's sound into subtitles, and a voice service reads your description aloud. They receive the video's sound or the description's words, and nothing identifying you.
What we never send: your exact location. These services may see a place name like "Griffith Observatory". They never see the coordinates, your email, your username, or anything identifying you.
None of these services may use what we send to train their models. AI is not used to make decisions about your account — only to hide content that breaks our rules. If something of yours is hidden and you think that's wrong, email us and a person will look at it.
What other people can see
Crumbs you post are public inside the app: your username, your content, and the place you pinned it to are visible to other people, and the location you attach is the point of the product. Your email address is never shown to other users. Think of a crumb's location the way you'd think of posting a photo with the address in the caption — if a place is private to you, don't pin it.
Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information. We share data only with the service providers that run the app on our behalf, and only so they can provide their service to us:
A cloud hosting provider — hosts our database, accounts, and media storage.
A maps provider — provides the maps and place search.
A video provider — processes and delivers video.
A push notification service — delivers notifications you allowed.
AI, transcription and voice services — the ones described in Where AI is involved above, for exactly what is listed there.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect people from harm.
Permissions the app asks for
Location — to show crumbs near you and to place the ones you drop. You can decline; the map still works, you just have to pick places manually.
Location while the app is closed — asked for only if you turn on Nearby nudges or Remember my day. Declining leaves everything else working.
Photos — to attach existing photos and videos to a crumb.
Camera — to take a photo or video for a crumb, and for the look-around view.
Microphone — for sound when you record video or audio.
Motion — only with Nearby nudges or Remember my day, so the app can pause location checks while you're standing still.
Notifications — optional, for activity on your crumbs.
Every one of these can be changed later in your device settings.
Your choices
Delete a crumb — removes it and its media from the app.
Turn off location or notifications — in your device settings, at any time.
Ask us anything — including for a copy of your data, at the address below.
Delete your account
You can delete your Posty Crumbs account yourself, inside the app, at any time:
Open the app and tap Profile.
Tap Settings at the bottom of your profile.
Tap Delete account.
Type your username to confirm, then tap Delete.
Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. It removes your account, your email address, username, and profile photo, every crumb and trail you posted, all the photos, videos, and audio in them, your comments, likes, saves, follows, and Circles, and your push notification token. Nothing is kept for later, except that routine server backups can hold a copy for up to 30 days before they expire. Content other people posted about a place stays, because it is theirs.
If you can no longer open the app, email hello@postycrumbs.com from the address on your account and ask us to delete it. We will confirm it is you and do it within 30 days.
You can also delete a single crumb without deleting your account: open your crumb, tap Edit, then Delete. Or on your Profile, select several crumbs and tap Delete. That removes the crumb and its media straight away.
Keeping it safe
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored with access rules that restrict each account to its own private data. No system is perfectly secure, but we treat your content and location as sensitive, because they are.
Children
Posty Crumbs is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes
When we add features that collect something new, we update this page and the privacy information shown on the App Store and Google Play at the same time. The date at the top tells you when it last changed.
